How to choose right skincare cosmetic from the production instruction?

2025-04-28

Reading the production instructions (sometimes called the label, description, or technical sheet) carefully is super important when choosing skincare products. Here's a simple guide to help you:

1. Check the Skin Type Recommendation

Look for wording like "for dry skin," "for oily skin," "for sensitive skin," or "for all skin types."

If your skin type doesn't match, skip it — it may cause breakouts, dryness, or irritation.

2. Focus on Key Ingredients

Production instructions usually highlight active ingredients — these tell you what the product actually does.

Hyaluronic acid → hydration

Salicylic acid → acne treatment

Vitamin C → brightening and anti-aging

Ceramides → skin barrier repair

Niacinamide → calming redness, balancing oil

→ If an ingredient sounds unfamiliar, look it up briefly before using.

3. Look for Claims (and Be Skeptical)

Claims like "dermatologically tested," "non-comedogenic" (won’t clog pores), "hypoallergenic," "fragrance-free," etc., can guide you — but remember, they are not always regulated.

Still, if you have sensitive or acne-prone skin, those labels can be helpful signs.

4. Pay Attention to Usage Instructions

How often and how you should use the product is usually mentioned.

If it says "use sparingly," it might be very strong (like acids or retinoids).

If it says "build up use slowly," your skin may need time to adjust.

5. Watch for Warnings and Contraindications

Some instructions say things like "not for use with other exfoliating products" or "avoid direct sunlight."

These warnings are crucial to avoid skin damage.

6. Expiration Date and Storage

Check if the production sheet mentions shelf life (like "12 months after opening") and storage instructions ("keep away from sunlight," "store under 25°C").

Expired or improperly stored products can seriously harm your skin.

7. Patch Test Recommendation

If the instruction advises a patch test, it means there's a higher risk of irritation — always a good idea to test behind your ear or inside your elbow first.
